[embarrassing waving goes here]

After staring for a good fifteen minutes at my empty journal and trying to decide where to begin, it occurred to me that, uh, an introduction probably make sense. I know. It's hard to overstate my genius.

In brief, I had a Dreamwidth years and years ago, but it wasn't something I ever really used. But I've been feeling a lot of nostalgia about the style of internet community that's difficult to come by on places like Tumblr or Twitter or other social media, and that happened to coincide perfectly with the Tumblr Exodus TM. So I figured, hey -- if people are livening Dreamwidth up again, I am ALL ABOUT doing my part to jump in and make that happen.

A little about me: I'm Kayla (she/her), 26, I work in publishing, I do some writing (by which I mostly mean -- especially lately -- that I get three paragraphs into things and then never finish them, so I've decided part of my Dreamwidth endeavor will be talking myself back into actually making some words happen again), I do some reading, I play some video games, I play some D&D (we've been going for a couple years now and I'm so grateful to this group of people!). I have a lot of things I'm into that I won't list in full, but some of the ones I'm currently most invested in include: all the Arrowverse shows except Arrow, She-ra and the Princesses of Power, Critical Role, Wynonna Earp, Killing Eve, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a forever show (and Buffering the Vampire Slayer is one of my very favorite podcasts!), lots more. I'm currently playing Dragon Age: Inquisition -- I started it on my old 360, but it got to the point where it was freezing ever 7 seconds, so I recently got a PS4 and my friend gave me Inquisition for that instead. So it's sort of my 1.5 playthrough? I never got to the end the first time, and I'm not quite caught up to where I was, but I'm having a wonderful time!

I also really, really love dogs. I feel this is important for you to know. One day, I am determined to be in a position where I will be able to own a dog, as I grew up part-time with quite a lot of them and am now lonelier for it. (But, truly? Animals in general bring me a lot of joy. And joy is not always easy to come by, so.)

Other stupid details about me: I get really tiny, obscure, unimportant quotes from things stuck in my head; I really like flail-dancing wildly around my house, but I live in an apartment that is not on the first floor, so most days I try to just semi-quietly slide-flail to music; making frozen Trader Joe's meals is me at peak chef; and I really love yelling about the emotions I have re: fictional characters.

Also, I've been doing a fairly terrible job of reading for fun recently (I read a lot for work, so that generally consumes the time I would normally set aside for reading), so I'm trying to get better at that. Normally that results in me having 13 books checked out from the library, all stacked next to my bed, that I never end up actually reading, but I'm working on it. Also? PSA that libraries are the best thing in the world. My favorite things to read are genre fiction -- so mostly scifi/fantasy stuff -- but I want to expand my nonfiction reading as well, and I'm always open to other things. Queer things are always a bonus. Really great ladies are kind of a necessity. All that being said, if anyone has an online book club they could recommend or is also interested in getting in on some book club action, let me know? It's something I've been wanting to do for a while, and it would give me a nice excuse to read for myself.

Also, if you have any particular book or podcast or game or comics recommendations, feel free to throw them my way! I'm including my current podcasts below (I love audio dramas and D&D/RPG actual play stuff, and I love good podcasts about media I love, and also good current event/political podcasts, but I'm always open), my current library books, and the games I own for PS4/360.

Current podcasts: Buffering the Vampire Slayer, The Bright Sessions (I know it's technically pretty over, but! The bonus episodes! Plus, I just loved this series a lot), Wolf 359 (also over, but also so good), The Rachel Maddow Show podcast, Pod Save America, Pod Save the World, Talking Comics, The Daily, Angel on Top, Limetown (haven't yet started s2 but will soon!)

Games I own (not all of which I've necessarily played, but I'm working my way through everything!): The Last of Us, all the Uncharted games, Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider, all the Dragon Age games, Mass Effect 1-3, Diablo III, Dishonored, Mirror's Edge, Skyrim, The Witcher 3, Horizon Zero Dawn.

Library books piled next to my bed, none of which I've read so far: Bonfire by Krysten Ritter, Silver on the Road by Laura Anne Gilman, Russian Roulette by Michael Isikoff & David Corn (OK, I actually did start this one), Pride by Ibi Zoboi, What Should Be Wild by Julia Fine, Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson, Dear Madam President by Jennifer Palmieri, I Crawl Through it by A.S. King, An Alchemy of Masques and Mirrors by Curtis Craddock (hey, I also started this one!), and Fierce by Aly Raisman.

Also, I would love to get back into reading comics! So if you've got any favorites of those, hit me.
